The dockworkers of Chittagong Port on Saturday announced a series of agitation programme including work abstention to press home their several demands including reinstatement of their terminated colleagues.
The Chittagong Dock Bandar Sramik Karmachari Federation's programme also include sit-in programme in front of Bandar Bhaban, the office of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), on Sunday; two-hour work abstention and protest rally from 8:00am on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; four-hour work abstention and protest rally from 8:00am on August 1, 2, and 3.
The federation leaders announced the programme at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club.
The workers demanded the reinstatement of their fellow workers affected in the reforms during the tenure of last caretaker government.
Their demands include to give booking of labourers by rotation through a booking centre, re-introduction of labour welfare activities through labour department, re-opening the closed residential buildings and providing identity cards to the workers to avert harassment while entering the port areas.
The federation General Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman Khan in a written statement alleged that the CPA authority yet to fulfil the aforesaid demands which were decided to be met in the inter-ministerial meeting held in Dhaka on October 26 last year, meeting at the Shipping Ministry on December 27 last year and several meetings with the CPA.
He warned that tougher movement will be announced from a meeting of the federation on August 4 if their demands are not met by the time.
